If you want cheeseball comic strips, my personal favorite was always Gil Thorp, the story of the generally successful football coach at Milford High School. Gil is a jut jawed fellow and always gets his charges to do the right thing, eventually. It has run on the sports page of the Chicago Tribune for many years. And I have no doubt that Gil would kick Mark Trail's behind.
