Hey Chad, I get it now!

While watching the Vikes totally dominate the 9-3 Bengals this afternoon I kept thinking about the Chad Ocho cinco (FKA Chad Johnson). In my mind I'm thinking, Ocho cinco doesn't sound muslim. And it doesn't sound like his African origin roots name. So I holler to Inkle Mama, what origin is Ocho cinco. She dead pans "it's #85 in Spanish".

Did this guy really legally change his name to his football number? Am I missing something here?

  1. Yes, yes he did. He also sometimes wears a poncho and sombrero on the sidelines. I think he wanted to just change his name on his jersey but the NFL wouldn't let him until he legally changed his name.

  2. Yep. And the best part is that he botched it, because eighty-five in Spanish is Ochenta y Cinco. His name, translated is Eight Five.

Nope. It's EIGHTY Five, which, as D. mentioned, is Ochenta y Cinco.

  5. Hmm. I thought Ocho Cinco was Spanish for, "Look at me! Look at me! ME, ME, ME!!!!"

    I stand corrected.

  6. The funnier part is that he changed his name LAST year, but NFL rules require him to notify the NFL of the change XX amount in advance of the season. He didn't do it in time so last season Chad Ochocinco's jersy read Chad Johnson.
I find the kid's antics a bit humerous. Like the time he sent a case of rolaids to the opposing secondary in a trash talking way of telling them he was going to give them heartburn... but it backfired and they played him extra hard and won the game...

  7. i like chad 85. he's funny, and adds a fun personality to the game.
TO on the otherhand, is so busy loving himself, he doesnt understand the power of having fun with yourself, too. self-deprcating humor can go a long way.
i guess the difference to me is a lil too much swagger vs 'let me entertain you'.
the difference between a class clown and prima donna.
