The final (Vikings score) was an 11-yard touchdown pass to tight end Visanthe Shiancoe on fourth-and-3 with 1:55 remaining.
Cowboys coach Wade Phillips said the Vikings ran up the score. Said Brooking: “I thought it was classless. I thought it was B.S. Granted, we get paid to stop them, but we had zero timeouts left. I didn’t think there was any call for that.”
Fair enough, Keith. Next time you're in a similar situation, just tell the opposing offense that your defense is willing to roll over like a bunch of yellow-bellied pigs if they agree to just take a knee. And if you make that plea while sniveling like a little girl it might have even more impact.
I dunno. I wouldn't have thrown the pass, either. If I remember correctly, the Purple will be visiting Dallas next season and I would expect a little payback.
ReplyDeleteHaving said that, the Vikings played a heck of a game and congratulations are in order. The game in New Orleans should be lotsa fun.

ReplyDeleteActually, Dallas comes here.
Brooking was a rookie with the Falcons in 1998. As a Vikings fan, I say he had it coming. :-D
Guess you're right -- I was thinking that they'd get the Vikes there because of how #1 teams line up, but I forgot that the Packers and Vikings have the same conference and non-conference schedule for common opponents. Dallas comes back to Green Bay next year, too.
ReplyDeleteAs for Keith Brooking, no sympathy for him, either. Still, I wouldn't have done it. I guess a Catholic boy shouldn't worry about karma, but there it is.
Congrats on the win, Brad (and other fans of the purple & gold).
ReplyDeleteAs for the late TD, I didn't see Brooking's comments, but if he and/or others were whining, I say, 'meh.' They should get over it.
I did see a bit of Favre's post game presser, though, and when they asked him about it, he said (paraphrasing) 1 - he wasn't trying to run up the score, 2 - he has too much respect for the Cowboys to do that, 3 - anyone who knows him knows he doesn't play like that, and...
...4 - anyway, it was payback for that game on November 18, 1996 when he was with Green Bay.
I guess Brett isn't that old after all. It seems his memory is pretty sharp!
i saw that TD, and i was thinking the same thing: not sporting.
ReplyDeletebut it was the cowboys who were being humiliated, so it wasnt really like a bad thing anyway.

ReplyDeleteAnd here I thought we paid that one back in 1997. One thing worth remembering -- Favre never forgets a slight.
I'm thinkin' most old school Vikings fans screamed "THAT'S FOR NATE WRIGHT!!!!!!!"
