Bring on the Vikes!

Questions for those in Packer Nation: Which is stronger -- your hatred for the Vikings, or your hatred for the Cowboys? Which team will you be cheering for next weekend? If the Pack are still in it, who would you rather face in the NFC championship game?

I guess what I'm getting at is... Which will it be -- "Beat Up Brad Week," or "Beat Up Stover (more than usual) Week?"

Just curious.

  1. Speaking as a fair weather Viking fan, (I simply choose not to put too much emotion into a professional sports team) I don't care if the Vikings were playing the Detroit Lions in the playoffs, I'd still be wary of their chances. Going against either Dallas or Green Bay---if I was a die-hard, I wouldn't want to be holding any kind of weaponry in front of the TV during the game.

  2. I'm Cheering for the 'boys, no questions about it. They're in a different division, and I live in the DFW area.

  3. I can only speak for me -- I don't hate the Vikings, although certain sectors of their fan base (not Brad Carlson, by the way) are profoundly irritating. And I will stipulate that Packer fans are pretty irritating, too.

The Cowboys are a different matter. The problem there goes back to the asinine pronouncements about the Cowboys being "America's Team" back in the 1970s. I also don't have a lot of use for Jerry Jones. It's easy to separate the Cowboy players from the hype machine -- I deeply respect Roger Staubach and Troy Aikman, for example. But on balance, I think the Cowboys are far easier to hate. But we all love you, Dan. ;)

Put it this way -- as long as the Packers are in it, I'm rooting for the Packers. After that, I'll probably cheer for the Vikings, although it would be neat for the Saints to finally get to a Super Bowl, too.

Believe me, I know. There have been several occasions where I'm thinking "get off my side" when I chat with another Vikings fan. A lot of the rubes don't like me because I'm way too realistic, bordering on cynical.

  5. As far as which teams I root for, it goes like this:

    1)Vikings
    .
    .
    .
    31)Dallas
    32)Green Bay

Of course, that is subject to change only when a Cowboys or Packers victory helps my club.

  6. I root for the Bears.
I always root against the Cowboys.

Unless, Cowboys v Patriots? i want them both to lose.

  7. Mr. D, thank you! I've been trying to put my love/hate for the Packers into words for long time and it dawned on me the other day....I don't mind the team at all, it's the Packer fans I don't like! There's more to life than cheese and beer! That said!, the Vikings may very well win it all this year, just because it makes such a great story with Favre and his 40 year old arm.

And You Packer Fans who keep holding up all your championships! You can't count the ones that happened before you were born!

Well Guitarman, that's still good news for me, because by that standard I can still claim 4.

And as I've said elsewhere, I wish the Vikings well.

  9. I knew there was a reason I didn't remember their 1st 2 championships in 67 and 68. It seems I was a 6 year old! I was more concerned with lincoln logs and tinker toys then. God bless you guys though. It's been a great rivalry.
