A sign from my childhood

When I was about ten, my mother and I had a good laugh at an advertisement from a local butcher shop:

Polish Brats $1.50

Given that the Chicago area was at least once the largest Polish city outside of Warsaw, we had to wonder what the names of the poor children were whose parents had chosen to sell them to Ruge Meats.
