The Mighty Urlacher...

speaks Truth to Lack of Power
"But I hate the way our identity has changed. We used to establish the run and wear teams down and try not to make mistakes, and we'd rely on our defense to keep us in the game and make big plays to put us in position to win. Kyle Orton might not be the flashiest quarterback, but the guy is a winner, and that formula worked for us. I hate to say it, but that's the truth."

In the off season, the Bears mismanagement spoke of an "explosion of offense" with the promising acquisition of Jay Cutler. They forgot to tell us it was the opposition's offense that was going to explode all around the Bears imploding defense.

A potentially great QB isn't worth an empty Gatorade cup if he doesn't have a solid team to take into the battle. And that is much of the problem: The O line can't open holes, and mediocre receivers can't be relied on to 'be there' on every down.
Add a QB who's trying to force the issue, and you got a recipe that produces more turnovers than Sarah Lee. Cutler's obviously expansive talents over Orton's decently average and reliable abilities could have put more W's in the Bears column if they had stuck to the original plan.
And I'm talking more as in: more than last season, and not just more than four.

Back in Week 6, I saw an interview with Kyle Orton. The interviewer gave Orton every opening to claim some credit for the Broncos 6-0 start. Without missing a beat, Orton totally blew off the premise of the questioning, declaring flat out that it was The Broncos who were 6-0. Not Kyle Orton.

And it's The Bears who suck this year.
Orton was right.
And so is Urlacher.

  3. Vikes QB threw multiple INTs and there was no hint of a running game. For one game I knew what it was like to watch the 2009 Bears.
